Tolon is Nauplion’s seaside side-kick: a short bus ride away it occupies an idyllic situation at the head of a gulf and offers views southwards as far as Spetsai on a fine day. It has a long sandy beach, at its widest and best at its eastern end, though the quietest and nicest part of the town is nearer the little harbour on its western side. It has many hotels, studios, rooms and villas available for tourists and in the height of the season is best avoided unless you like crowds, both Greeks and foreigners. In other months it is the perfect quiet seaside retreat for an area of exceptional interest and antiquity. The panorama of islets and the mountains of the Argolid’s central peninsula is magical.
